(3) Evacuation system: A vacuum pump and evacuation pipelines that are able to maintain the system pressure at about 1 Pa are necessary. A freeze-dryer consumes comparatively more energy than other types of dryers of the same capacity because of the additional energy required for freezing the drying materials and creating a vacuum environment and also because the sublimation heat is approximately 13 % greater than the evaporation heat.
